I enjoyed thinking of Mary and Joseph in such real terms. They probably did feel all of these ways at one time or another. Just as we would.

I do not agree however that they "deserve better than they got". I am afraid that any good thing we get is better than we deserve. What we deserve is death. This is stated clearly in the Bible. I wonder today if some of the problem with the church is our belief that we deserve the good things in life.

God gave this couple a most amazing gift and yes the journey was hard but I believe that in the end they got well more than they deserve.

Ok - the mortified during birth part never entered my mind before! Do you think Joseph really helped? What would the custom have been? Not that Joseph was a "go with the current trend" kinda guy, but it would be interesting to know how the birth experience was handled by the husband back then. Poor Mary hadn't experienced sex with her husband but she had to push out a kid in front of him. That experience was mortifying in a nice clean hospital with epidurals...can't imagine what Mary experienced!

Did the shame of the unwed pregnancy help prepare her to handle the delivery experience? Or maybe something about Mary's delivery experience made her able to withstand another more difficult event at a different point in her life?

I don't get God. So glad he doesn't ask me to!

Can't wait to meet Mary and Joseph in Heaven.
